In conversation with Kajsa Weber and Helle Strandgaard Jensen, the development of digital history in the Nordic countries is examined. Both advocate a broad, inclusive definition that encompasses digital methods, digitised and ‘born-digital’ sources, as well as theoretical reflections on digital interfaces. In Denmark, the field is firmly established at Aarhus University through compulsory courses, the targeted development of a community and institutional support. In Sweden, on the other hand, the momentum is driven more by a younger generation, but suffers from structural uncertainty and a lack of permanent positions. Both emphasise the importance of international networking, which is driven not least by cooperation within Scandinavia, but also by impulses from the United Kingdom and Luxembourg.
