Listen to the new episode.

Christoph Sander studied philosophy and now works as a Knowledge and Software Engineer. He reflects on his role at the intersection of historical scholarship and digital methods. His entry into Digital History came from a desire to empirically substantiate historical claims, for which he largely taught himself programming skills. For him, Digital History represents more than just a technical tool; it is a genuine expansion of historical research, even if categorizing it as its own “epoch” within the discipline seems problematic. At the same time, he points to structural challenges: DH projects require teamwork, substantial funding, and close coordination between humanities scholars and technical experts. On a personal level, he also describes the challenge of fully doing justice to the mathematical foundations of digital methods.
